- Year 3 paragraph, inference and sentence-clause foundations.
What the class will do
- Choose and explain · 8 challenges
Use two clues
Read all the clues. Choose the interpretation best supported by this scene; possible motives need not be certain or permanent traits.
- Match pairs · 8 challenges
Different clues, different inferences
Each card contains a complete scene. Match the most specific supported inference within this microset; explain which clues make it fit.
- Sort into groups · 6 challenges
What kind of support?
Group each claim as explicitly stated, a supported inference or not established here. Not established does not mean proved false.
- Choose and explain · 8 challenges
A new clue can change a reading
Use the new detail or select the strongest evidence. Reconsider a first reading when relevant clues change; leave a motive open when support is insufficient.
Using it in class
Everyone proposes a motive with two textual clues before a representative acts. Discuss only these original fictional scenes, not real pupils. Inferences are qualified; the game does not assess personalities. Five tasks: 6–10 minutes; all 30: 35–45 with selected discussion.
Give everyone time to think and discuss before one pupil acts at the board. The class explains and confirms together; hints and explanations stay until you move on.
Use an up-to-date browser on a computer connected to a whiteboard or shared display. Touch, mouse and keyboard; optional audio and reduced motion. No pupil accounts or personal devices.
Choose from 5 challenges up to the full activity. Discussion determines the duration: you set the pace.
Teacher Pro access includes all 30 challenges, interactive materials, hints and explanations for this activity.
